Alice Springs together for Children’s Week Market Day

November 23, 2020

Did you pop down to join in the community celebrations for Children’s Week 2020?

The Todd Mall Markets were taken over by the children and families of Alice Springs, and we couldn’t have been more happy about it! To celebrate Children’s Week 2020, Child Friendly Alice partnered with the Todd Mall Markets and fantastic local groups who provided FREE activities and entertainment. Most importantly, we got to celebrate with the 500+ children and their families who came down to join in the fun!

The theme for this year’s Children’s Week was:

Children have the right to meet together and to join groups and organisations, as long as this does not stop other people from enjoying their rights (Article 15 UNHCR)

Here’s what Alice Springs had to say!

Children’s voices…

“This is so cool. All of this for us kids? And for free? No way!” – 9 yrs

“Me and my friends got to do chalk on the road and make a crown and make a bracelet and get a glitter tattoo too!” – 5 yrs

“I play tennis. I’m really good at it. I’m showing my friends how to play too. Come!” – 10 yrs

Parents/Community voices….

“It looked amazing, finally reminded me of why we loved living here when our kids were little.” – Community member

“We should have these stalls always at the market. It’s a great way for parents/children/families to come and have time with each other with an activity” – Parent

“(My grandson) loved the atmosphere at the mall and kept referring to it as the ‘big party’. There were plenty of kids there and this helped (him) feel very comfortable. I did run into dads who were there with their kids and really enjoying it. They told me it was the kids prompting them to go to the mall. I, like others, wouldn’t normally go to the markets but having the kids stalls there was a motivating force.” – Grandparent

Service Sector voices…

“Epic effort today. Awesome! We done! Amazing turn out…. People were really interested in the profile and receptive to the Child Friendly Alice story!” – Child Friendly Alice Backbone member

“Thank you  for the wonderful festival on the weekend, it went so well and was lovely to work with you… really enjoyed being there and had a great time connecting to the young kids who came to make bracelets with us at our stall.” – CREATE Foundation

“I am so glad we participated and it was nice to see ‘town’ being town ‘again’ with everyone from all backgrounds playing together and having fun.” – Tennis Alice Springs

Look what we can do when we do it together!

Special thank you to the groups below for jumping on-board and creating a community impact for our Alice Springs mob!
